Podcasts and Neoclassical Music

I have recently become acquainted with this whole podcast thing. It wasn’t something I gravitated to quickly - I thought it would be kind of… well, schlocky. But it isn’t. In fact, this is really neat. I probably will turn into a podcast junkie. At any rate, I have found a wonderful podcast for lovers of neoclassical music and poetry.

Supernatural FM, a podcast by BCPoetry.com, out of Vancouver, British Columbia, has some very good podcasts. They currently have four that combine neoclassical music with spoken poetry. It is an enjoyable mix; listening to one of these podcasts before going to sleep should promote some restful sleep and peaceful dreams.

The Music Genome

Genome is becoming one of the buzz words of the early 21st century. It all comes from The Human Genome, which of course is a scientific project of somewhat greater proportion than creating a mix of music suited to an individual listener. However, the premise is, with a bit of a stretched imagination, interesting. The Music Genome is a Web site designed to bring you individualized music - matched to your musical DNA in a way.

I gave this a test. I started with William Ackerman, being that he is an extremely well-known name in the neoclassical music world, and it did work. It took my first choice and continued to select music appropriate to my liking. The player is simple to operate, provided me with additional information as I listened, yet remained unobtrusively in the background when I was working.

Pandora is free - they guarantee it free for a lifetime, the ability to create up to 100 “stations” of your choosing, and accessible from any computer. It is a great way to not only listen to your favorites, but to discover new favorites, as their music analysis brings you likely choices.

Not really DNA, but not such a bad idea. I think you will enjoy this site and Pandora.

Great Music - Legal and Downloaded to Your Computer

I bought something recently for my computer, and when the order was shipped, it came with all the paperwork typical of an online order. Most of the coupons and advertising wasn’t of interest to me, but one was. eMusic is an online service that has plans with three different monthly subscriptions. You can download music, keep it, and even burn it to a CD. This is a really great deal.

Going to eMusic, you will find a free trial of 14 days. In that 14 days, you can download 25 pieces of music. At that point, the monthly fee will begin and you will get your allotted number of downloads each month. They are yours to keep. You will also have the ability to participate in the eMusic forums, read recommendations, and do plenty of “Window” shopping.

To join eMusic, and receive a special at the time of joining, visit their sign-up page and give it a try. You will receive 50 free songs rather than the standard 25. If you decide it isn’t for you, which I can’t imagine, you may keep the 50 songs.

It’s a great deal! I just joined and I am extremely pleased. There is some great music at this site, and it is legal, convenient, and inexpensive.

Sacred Sounds

“Welcome to the world’s first Sacred Sounds portal. Our site showcases the finest “East meets West” artists who have recorded heart opening music by artfully combining melodies, mantras and lyrics from both hemispheres. These artists and this portal are dedicated to the transformational power of love and peace.”
From Sacred Sounds Radio

Today I sat down at my computer and turned on my favorite music player of all time.  Live365’s, Radio365.  I have the premium version because of all the music players I have tried, this one was the best (in my opinion) hands down.  (And for the price you will never find a better deal!) Anyway, I found a new station I haven’t listened to before.

Sacred Sounds Radio is a most unique blend of music.  I wasn’t sure what to expect when I turned to this station, but I liked it enough to stay for the entire evening.   “Wahe Guru,” by Mantra Girl is playing right now and it is totally unique.

Sacred Sounds RadioThe music titles, to the casual reader, might look completely eastern and have no appeal to a western mindset.  NOT true.  This is as interfaith as it gets.  This particular piece I am listening to right now is meditative, prayerful, and very sacred in its expression.  One click in my Radio365 player, and this CD was put on my wishlist.

On the front page of the Web site, I found a list of artists.  I scrolled through and found Mantra Girl and discovered a whole page of information about the two behind the music.

There’s a lot more on this site. I hope you will check it out and give it a good listen. I am very pleased I found this Internet radio station and it is definitely, now one of my favorites!
